Wie Regisseur Dirk Schmeding am Staatstheater Braunschweig mit der Sehnsucht der Nixe nach menschlicher Empfindung und Liebe umgeht, das beglaubigt gerade unter Einhaltung der Distanz das Unerf\u00fcllte und f\u00fcr das Wasserwesen auch Unerf\u00fcllbare solchen W\u00fcnschens. Schmeding bietet besonders f\u00fcr Rusalka selbst ber\u00fcckende Intensit\u00e4t auf. Etwa, wenn Je\u017eibaba ihr den Fischschwanz chirurgisch auftrennt und wie eine Haut abzieht, gleichsam des Wasserwesens Beine befreit, dieses aber erst lernen muss, mit ihnen \u2013 ganz w\u00f6rtlich verstanden \u2013 umzugehen. Der Prinz begegnet der Nixe, als sie ihm unter die R\u00e4der seines Autos ger\u00e4t. Bevor er sich ihr zuwendet, pr\u00fcft er im Seitenspiegel, ob seine Frisur sitzt. Die fremde F\u00fcrstin tritt aus einem wie an einem amerikanischen Highway aufgestellten Filmplakat mit ihrem Konterfei, die ganze Erscheinung eine Projektion des Prinzen und wohl auch Rusalkas. Alles dies \u00fcberzeugt, weil Schmeding das M\u00e4rchenhafte des Sujets nicht antastet. Er darf sich daher getrost dessen Entromantisierung leisten. Kaum, dass sie den Prinzen final gek\u00fcsst hat, erstickt die ins Reich der Untoten exilierte Wasserfrau ihn unter einer Plastikfolie. M\u00e4rchen sind halt oft weniger romantisch als grausam. Ralf K\u00e4selau baut daf\u00fcr eine B\u00fchne am Rande der menschlichen Zivilisation. Melancholie beherrscht die Szene. Der Nixenteich droht auszutrocknen, w\u00e4hrend Je\u017eibaba munter die keineswegs wassersparende Waschmaschine bedient. Der hilflos um den Zusammenhalt seiner Welt besorgte Wassermann haust im Abflussrohr. Poetisch geheimnisvoll liegt die Uferlandschaft und schimmert die Wasseroberfl\u00e4che in n\u00e4chtlichem Schein, wenn die Titelfigur als Irrlicht umherschweift und den Prinzen zu Tode k\u00fcsst. Julia R\u00f6sler streicht die Figuren kost\u00fcmlich pr\u00e4gnant heraus. Rusalka in farblosem Wei\u00df, ein Wesen, dem immer etwas fehlt, ob nun die menschliche Seele oder die F\u00e4higkeit zu sprechen. Die fremde F\u00fcrstin als Hollywood-Diva im f\u00fcnfziger Jahre Badedress. Den Prinzen als Edelhippie. Den Wassermann im zerschlissenen Honoratiorenfrack, der nicht einmal mehr f\u00fcr die Altkleidersammlung taugt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ebenso gewinnend wie die szenische ist die musikalische Seite dieser Produktion. Georg Menskes l\u00e4sst den aus dem Off eingespielten Chor des Staatstheaters das B\u00fchnengeschehen effektsicher untermalen. Srba Dini\u0107 bedient sich mit dem Braunschweiger Staatsorchester Mari\u00e1n Lejavas Fassung f\u00fcr einen reduzierten Klangk\u00f6rper. Anf\u00e4nglich wagnert es nach Kr\u00e4ften, bald aber erlangt Dvo\u0159\u00e1ks slawisches Musikidiom die Oberhand. Trefflich wissen Dini\u0107 und sein Orchester die Substanz und F\u00fclle der Partitur trotz Covid-bedingter Einschr\u00e4nkungen zu wahren. Julie Adams geht die Titelpartie eher jugendlich-dramatisch als lyrisch an, entfaltet dabei aber au\u00dferordentliche Leucht- und Strahlkraft. Den Prinzen l\u00e4sst Kwonsoo Jeon machtvoll und in seinen besten Augenblicken auch voller Schmelz auftrumpfen. Es ist ihm ein wenig mehr s\u00e4ngerische \u00d6konomie zu w\u00fcnschen. Edna Prochnik verleiht Je\u017eibaba vokale Durchtriebenheit. Die Fremde F\u00fcrstin stattet Ekaterina Kudryavtseva mit sinnlichem Flair aus.
