Dar\u00fcber, wie man heute Opern umsetzt, deren Geschichten eine nicht-westliche Welt \u201everlangen\u201c, deren Hauptcharaktere Menschen marginalisierter Gruppen \u201esein sollen\u201c und bei denen die hiesige Opernwelt versucht ist, in exotische Klischees zu st\u00fcrzen. Wir m\u00fcssen reden \u00fcber \u201eCarmen\u201c, \u201eDie Entf\u00fchrung aus dem Serail\u201c, \u201eOtello\u201c und \u201eAida\u201c, denn sie alle haben gemein, dass wir besonders als wei\u00dfe Personen nicht mehr unkommentiert \u00fcber ihre Problemzonen hinwegsehen d\u00fcrfen. Dar\u00fcber, dass die Kunstform der Oper einst ein starkes Mittel war, \u201edas Andere\u201c und \u201edas Exotische\u201c zu entwerfen, um den Kolonialismus zu legitimieren. Wir m\u00fcssen dar\u00fcber reden, wie Blackfacing an mancher Stelle als Werktreue und nicht als rassistische Geste gelesen wird. Die \u201eAida\u201c-Inszenierung von Regisseurin Lotte de Beer an der Op\u00e9ra national de Paris tr\u00e4gt den Aufruf zum Diskurs \u00fcber genau diese Themen in jeder Szene mit sich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Beers Pr\u00e4misse, Aida nicht von einer wei\u00dfen S\u00e4ngerin spielen zu lassen, sondern sie mit einer Puppe zu doubeln, ist ein genialer Spiegel f\u00fcr die Problematiken von Verdis Oper. Dieses Vorgehen \u00fcbersieht nicht, dass die Rolle eine \u00c4thiopierin \u201esein soll\u201c, vermeidet aber, eine wei\u00dfe S\u00e4ngerin wortw\u00f6rtlich in \u201eAidas Haut\u201c zu stecken, die sie allerdings jederzeit wieder ablegen k\u00f6nnte (eines der gro\u00dfen Probleme des Blackfacings). Damit die Gestalt der Puppe nicht exotischen Stereotypen zum Opfer f\u00e4llt, wurde die simbabwische K\u00fcnstlerin Virginia Chihota, wohnhaft in \u00c4thiopien, beauftragt, die Vorlage zu der Puppe von Aida zu gestalten. Zus\u00e4tzlich erscheint ihre d\u00fcsterbunte Kunst, die sich mit dem marginalisierten schwarzen weiblichen K\u00f6rper besch\u00e4ftigt, immer wieder prominent auf der B\u00fchne von Christof Hetzer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Konzeptuell ist die Pariser \u201eAida\u201c eine werkkritische und damit sehr starke Inszenierung; leider ist ihre Umsetzung nicht lupenrein. Das Puppenspiel macht Probleme, denn immer wieder rutscht der Fokus von der Aida-Puppe zur\u00fcck auf ihre S\u00e4ngerin. Das Spiel von Sondra Radvanovsky, die immer wieder mit der Puppe interagiert, anstatt sich in den Hintergrund einzublenden, ist nicht sehr dienlich daf\u00fcr, de Beers Pr\u00e4misse zu sch\u00e4rfen. Dagegen steht allerdings der starke Mittelteil der Inszenierung mit dem gesanglichen H\u00f6hepunkt im Duett von Aida und ihrem Vater (Ludovic T\u00e9zier) und dem Triumphmarsch, bei dem die Statisterie ber\u00fchmte Gem\u00e4lde imperialer Macht nachstellt, was interessante und kritische Gedanken zum Spannungsfeld von Kunst und Imperialismus birgt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>W\u00e4hrend in dem B\u00fchnenmuseum mit d\u00fcstergr\u00fcnen R\u00e4umen die Kunst des Kolonialismus und die des Nationalstolzes aufeinanderprallen und das steinige Material der Puppen (Mervyn Millar) mit den strengen Uniformen der \u00c4gypter schmackhaft konterkarieren (Kost\u00fcme: Jorine van Beek), ist der Abend auch musikalisch ziemlich volumin\u00f6s. Jonas Kaufmann feuert seinen Radam\u00e8s mit altvertrauter Kehligkeit in dramatische H\u00f6hen, Sondra Radvanovsky interpretiert die extremen Spitzen der Aida mit d\u00fcnner Kopfstimme (was theatralisch, aber wirklich gut wirkt) und Ksenia Dudnikovas Amneris strahlt golden. Im leeren Theater beklatscht das Orchester sich selbst und ihren Dirigenten Michele Mariotti \u2013 nicht einmal geraten ihm der Graben und die B\u00fchne musikalisch auseinander.
