Dezember 1909 im damaligen Noch-Hof-, dem heutigen Nationaltheater war es letztlich inhaltlich, weil gesellschaftlich vorbei: Der neue Frauen-Typ des \u201eFlappers\u201c durchtanzte die \u201eRoaring Twenties\u201c \u2013 und rauchte nat\u00fcrlich, privat wie \u00f6ffentlich. Dennoch war das fast in eine Ehekatastrophe m\u00fcndende \u201eGeheimnis\u201c, das heimliche Rauchen Susannas, erfolgreiche Opernnostalgie noch bis in die siebziger Jahre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grunds\u00e4tzlich ist es erfreulich, wenn die Bayerische Staatsoper ihre Geschichte reflektiert. Denn \u00fcber die Urauff\u00fchrung hinaus pflegte Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari enge Beziehungen zu M\u00fcnchen und Bayern \u2013 und au\u00dferdem passt der 45-min\u00fctige Einakter f\u00fcr zwei S\u00e4nger und einen stummen Diener perfekt in den Pandemie-Spielplan der \u201eMontagsst\u00fccke\u201c als Lebenszeichen: Wir produzieren und spielen dennoch f\u00fcr unser Publikum!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ebenso \u201edennoch\u201c wird Regisseur Axel Ranisch klar gewesen sein, dass das Werk inhaltlich \u201etotal out\u201c ist. Also hat er es multimedial aufgeblasen. Der Diener Sante f\u00fchrt die Zuschauerkamera zum offenen Spielpodest mit etlichen M\u00f6beln auf der gro\u00dfen B\u00fchne des Nationaltheaters (Ausstattung: Katarina Ravlic und Christian Blank). Dort ist auch das relativ gro\u00dfe Bayerische Staatsorchester postiert: mit dem R\u00fccken zum schwach erleuchteten leeren Zuschauerraum. Sante beginnt das nur noch albern wirkende Spiel zu inszenieren: Misstrauen von Graf Gil; Gr\u00e4fin Susannas Verschleierung ihrer Tabak-Einkaufsg\u00e4nge; Nebenbuhler-Eifersucht und Rauch-Schnuppern des neurotischen Hausherrn; Rauchen Susannas mit Sante; Ertapptwerden; Vers\u00f6hnung und Bekehrung des Grafen zum Rauchen; das alles in heutigen Kost\u00fcmen \u2026 Da hilft nur \u201eAufwand\u201c: Regisseur Ranisch \u201edoubelt\u201c die Handlung durch visuelle Film-Verlegung in eine Edelvilla in M\u00fcnchen-Nymphenburg, wo die S\u00e4nger stumm agieren mussten, w\u00e4hrend Gesang und Orchester von der Live-Auff\u00fchrung im Theater kommen. Szenenwechsel hin und her und dann auch noch \u00dcberblendungen. Doch f\u00fcr \u00fcberzeugendes Stumm-Film-Agieren in Nahaufnahme h\u00e4tte Ranisch \u00fcber ein paar Probenwochen und die Sensibilit\u00e4t eines Christof Loy f\u00fcr Personenregie verf\u00fcgen m\u00fcssen. Das war beides nicht gegeben, also: Aufwand und Aktionismus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dem Nachlesen nach hat 1958 Peter Ebert in Glyndebourne die stumme Dienerrolle zu einem umjubelten Kabinettst\u00fcck geformt. Ranisch macht aus dem beleibten Heiko Pinkowski nicht nur einen wenig \u00fcberzeugenden Regisseur, sondern auch noch den wenig \u201egusti\u00f6sen\u201c Lover von Graf wie Gr\u00e4fin mit einem Ende als \u201eM\u00e9nage \u00e0 trois\u201c \u2013 ach, wie zeitgem\u00e4\u00df chic! Oder: ein nettes Nichts verschlimmbessert!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ein wenig Trost aus der Musik: Dirigent Yoel Gamzou macht etliches der kleinen Preziosen und Raffinessen von Wolff-Ferraris Partitur h\u00f6rbar, anderes geht in der Bilderflut einfach als Soundtrack unter. Selene Zanetti und Michael Nagy singen sehr gut, trotz Produktion dauernder E-Zigaretten-Rauchwolken.
